Who we are - What we do!
The origins of Pongees Limited are in Switzerland where
there is an historical base of silk trading with China going
back many hundreds of years. The original parent company of
Pongees Ltd, founded in the 19th century in Zurich, was
called Ostertag Hausamann Fez. In 1931 an office was
opened in London and named Pongees Limited which is
also the generic name for a particular quality of silk fabric 'Silk
Pongee' which was obviously extremely popular at that time.
Pongees have traded in London ever since, initially in our
core business of natural Greige silk fabric from China and
over the course of the years have expanded our collection by
incorporating colours and special finishes and exquisite and
ornate fabrics from India, Thailand and Europe. Despite all
these developments over the years, today Pongees still
retains a link with our Swiss founders as a member of the
Hausamann family in Zurich remains Chairman of the
company and still maintains a regular interest in the
company's day-to-day activities.

We are therefore one of the oldest established silk merchants
in the UK and have gained the reputation of which we are
most proud for supplying high-quality silk fabrics to a wide
range of clients in the Bridal, Fashion and Couture industry as
well as for the TV, Film and Theatre productions and in recent
years we have developed an extensive range of fabrics
exclusively for the Interior and Soft Furnishing market.
Pongees are also in the forefront of helping the development
of new era of the fashion industry in particular by providing
support to students at college and university which will
hopefully assist them in becoming the fashion designers of
tomorrow.

Our customer base once focused only on the UK market has
now expanded across Europe into North America and the Far
East. We have many agents in many European markets and
we show our fabrics at various fashion and interior shows
around the world.

We continue to develop the silk fabrics in our range year by
year and now have over two hundred different silk fabric
qualities in our range with many of these qualities available in
over 100 different colours all from stock in our modern
showroom and warehouse headquarters in fashionable
Hoxton Square in London.

We work hard to maintain our reputation for providing a
reliable and friendly service and constantly strive to maintain
our levels of quality for all of our customers in a world of
ever-changing circumstances.
